Previsico announces partnership with Onsite

Previsico are proud to announce our partnership with OnSite Central Limited who provide specialist contracting services to the water industry and related sectors.

This collaboration will provide an advanced monitoring solution to support greater understanding of risk and facilitate both proactive and reactive maintenance of culverted watercourses.

The solution allows clients to better understand the condition and performance of assets in real-time, supporting strategic decision-making around maintenance and affording maintenance activities to be targeted at assets at risk of flooding, based on need.

We look forward to seeing how this partnership grows and the benefits it will provide to our clients.

Proposal

An advanced monitoring solution to support greater understanding of risk and facilitate both proactive and reactive maintenance of culverted watercourses.

Proactive: issues detected (e.g. vegetation growth, trash screen obstruction and sediment deposition) under baseflow/non-flood conditions that can be rectified ahead of an event.

Reactive: detection of culvert blockages and/or trash screen debris build-up during events, supporting management activities and potential risk mitigation.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WE'RE SOLVING?

Culverted watercourses are nationally prevalent with many of these screened to help mitigate risk of culvert blockage. However, screens require maintenance – both ahead of and during events – and lack of understanding of levels (of water and sediment) in and around these structures can hamper maintenance capabilities.

This means organisations are often reliant on maintenance teams visiting site to inform understanding of screen condition, which is effective but costly – potentially running into the £100,000s per client per annum.

Real-time data from sensors installed upstream and/or within trash screens and at culvert outlets can help your maintenance teams to better understand when and where trash screen and culvert maintenance is required, significantly reducing need for costly site visits.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?

SENSORS are low maintenance with a battery life of 5+ years and can be installed in strategic locations, supporting understanding of flood risk around critical infrastructure and facilitating reactive and proactive maintenance, mitigating impacts and losses.

  • Real-time data and alerts from sensors installed upstream and/or within trash screens and at culvert outlets can support greater understanding of risk, (e.g. due to high water levels, sedimentation, obstruction) supporting detection of internal (within-culvert) and/or external (trash screen) blockages.
  • Timely delivery of data. Frequency of sampling and data transmission can be tailored depending on the individual need, with data viewable through a dedicated digital dashboard that also supports delivery of alerts by SMS or email.
  • Advanced diagnostics help support identification of issues in the physical environment – e.g. vegetation growth, sediment deposition – with insights used to support understanding of asset performance and maintenance.
  • Enables you to move from a reactive to an informed proactive approach to asset management.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO YOU?

Instrumentation that allows you to better understand the condition and performance of assets in real-time, supporting strategic decision-making around maintenance and affording maintenance activities to be targeted at assets at risk of flooding, based on need.

Sensors can inform prioritisation based on detected risk at the network scale. Upstream and/or within-trash-screen instrumentation would allow clients to:

  • Understand changes in the physical environment – including instances of sediment deposition and vegetation growth beneath sensors.
  • Inform maintenance activities to support mitigation of risk.
  • Avoid reliance on traditional, resource-intensive methods of asset inspection, e.g. CCTV or on-site personnel.
  • Give you the option to deploy central resources to manage assets at immediate risk of flooding, or deploy contractors such as OnSite to respond on your behalf.
