As extreme flooding events escalate across the globe, Previsico is calling for a new era of collaboration between insurers, government, and industry to tackle the growing threat to businesses, people and wider society.
Speaking during London Climate Action Week, Aleksander Surowiak, Head of Sales at Previsico, has urged all stakeholders to unite and deliver a comprehensive national flood resilience strategy. With UK flood losses now exceeding £1 billion annually and projected to increase fivefold by 2050 due to climate change and urban development pressures, the scale of the challenge is clear.
Surowiak argues that no single sector can shoulder this burden alone: “Flooding is no longer an isolated threat – it is a systemic risk that affects us all,” he says. “At the Climate Innovation Forum, part of London Climate Action Week, I’m urging insurers, government, and industry leaders to work together to safeguard our communities, infrastructure, and economy.”
Speaking at the Forum, Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Climate Change, said: “Communities across the UK are already facing the consequences of flooding. The urgency of the climate imperative is clearer than ever.”
Insurers are uniquely positioned to incentivise proactive adaptation to the impacts of extreme weather. Previsico’s partnerships with Liberty Specialty Markets through its Risk Reduce platform, and Zurich Municipal, who bundle Previsico’s solutions into its policies, show how early warning tech and mitigation incentives can reduce exposure and build resilience.
Previsico is calling for the creation of a cohesive national flood resilience strategy, backed by real-time data, smart forecasting tools, and aligned incentives. Without unified action, businesses and communities will continue to suffer the costs of fragmented response efforts.
“We know that up to 70% of flood losses can be avoided with the right plans and early warnings,” added Surowiak. “Now is the time to act, together.”
Previsico is engaging with policymakers, insurers, and innovators at London Climate Action Week (24-30 June 2025) to drive forward a collaborative agenda for flood resilience.
