The Transit Tech Lab, a public-private initiative created by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the Partnership Fund for New York City, which accelerates innovation in public transportation, today announced that Previsico is one of 12 companies selected for their programme’s seventh annual challenge cycle.
During the programme, Previsico will collaborate with the MTA and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to demonstrate how its real-time flood forecasting solutions can support the organisations’ emergency preparedness and risk mitigation.
The selection of Previsico into the programme follows record flooding in the New York area over the last few years, including September 2023, which created major issues for the transport system, inundating numerous highways and roads and affecting all New York City Subway services, causing a total of US$100mil of losses.
This year’s finalists were selected out of 112 applications from across the world in collaboration with over 200 public sector evaluators. Applicants were asked to propose tech-driven approaches to support the agencies’ objectives in analysing ridership and travel demand data to improve overall experience, as well as optimising inspections and maintenance.
The Transit Tech Lab provides an accelerated pathway for innovative companies, like Previsico, to solve challenges facing the largest transit agencies in North America. We’re excited to collaborate with Previsico and the other companies in this year’s Transit Tech Lab to test solutions that optimise maintenance processes, a key component of a well-running transit system.
We’re thrilled that Previsico has been selected by the Transit Tech Lab to run a proof of concept to understand how Previsico can help with service continuity during a flood event for the MTA and the PANYNJ. This marks a significant milestone in our US expansion, as we collaborate with leading innovators to strengthen the resilience and efficiency of critical infrastructure nationwide.

The twelve finalists will conduct a minimum viable test of their technology over an eight-week proof of concept period in collaboration with one or more of the participating agencies, including the MTA, the PANYNJ, and the NYC Department of Transportation.
The Transit Tech Lab has yielded substantial success in applying new technologies to help government agencies deliver more effective services. Since the programme’s inception in 2018, over 1,000 companies have applied to participate, 81 companies have tested their technologies, and 30 solutions have commercially scaled or informed commercial procurements.
