Who we are
We are a SpinOut company from Loughborough University specialising in modelling flooding in real-time, using the latest weather predictions to make street-level flood nowcasts and forecasts. Our mission is to be the leading global provider of cutting-edge flood prediction that saves lives and livelihoods whilst significantly reducing the cost of flooding for commercial, government and humanitarian organisations globally. This requires continuous innovation through harnessing the leading information sources and technological developments to maximise the prediction’s quality and its impact on those affected by flooding. We provide alerts and data to our customers but are also developing our own in-house visualisation tool to help users make best use of the service. Having launched in January, 2019, we have offices in Loughborough and London. As part of our continued expansion, we are searching for a talented, motivated individual to join our team as a front-end web developer help make our visualisation easy to use and effective.
The company is looking for a developer with experience of building secure, configurable portals and dashboards that use interactive mapping. The successful candidate will transform our prototype visualization tool into a fully operational and intuitive system which customers can use to identify short term flood risks.
We are looking for someone that is self-motivated and produces brilliant results. The ideal candidate will have a passion for delivering websites to a high standard and the ability to work under pressure, especially during busy periods. There is the opportunity to help with the establishment of an agile development environment within this exciting startup company. The role is based in Loughborough with flexible working option of up to 4 days per week of home working.
The successful candidate will have experience as a full stack developer with knowledge of building front-end and back-end applications that either matches the dashboard and portal requirements or can be demonstrated as transferable. Desirable skills include:
Building frontend applications
• Design experience – experience of working with designers on portals
• A strong knowledge base and track record in building dashboards and portals that use interactive maps
Building backend applications
• Experience of working in Ubuntu / Linux operating systems and server-side programming languages, such as Java, PHP, Python and Perl.
• Familiarity with web server technologies, such as Nginx and Apache
• Interfacing with databases
• Using back-end application frameworks
• API integration
• Security settings
• Operational set up: Reporting, backup and restore
• Content management system (CMS) development, deployment and maintenance.
Previsico has an office in London (Old Street) and Loughborough (Holywell Enterprise Park). The successful applicant will be able to have flexible working arrangements but will be required to attend weekly meetings at the Loughborough Office.
