- The InsuResilience Investment Fund Private Equity II (IIF II), managed by BlueOrchard Finance Limited, has completed a strategic growth investment in Previsico.
- Previsico is a leading flood intelligence platform that provides comprehensive forecasting and monitoring, enabling clients to anticipate, prevent, and recover from flood impacts.
- This investment is part of a new funding round with participation from Burnt Island Ventures alongside other and existing shareholders.
Flooding continues to pose a significant financial risk globally, with losses from pluvial and ordinary watercourse flooding estimated at $USD 87 billion in the first three quarters of 2024 alone, and projections suggesting annual losses could reach $USD 850 billion by 2050. The increasing frequency of localized natural disasters is driving demand for advanced predictive solutions - an area where Previsico excels.
Previsico’s propietrary platform aggregates diverse datasets – including live sensor, satellite, and weather data – to deliver highly accurate, property-level stormwater flood forecasts and warnings up to 48 hours in advance. These insights support insurers, utilities, property owners, and public authorities in mitigating risk and minimizing losses, providing a level of accuracy and granularity that sets Previsico apart from traditional forecasting models.
Having established its commercial credibility in the UK market, Previsico has validated its technology through projects in the US, Kenya, and Italy. With growth capital from Burnt Island Ventures, Previsico is accelerating its US market expansion, and with the support of IIF II, the company will deepen its reach in high-growth emerging markets, where protection gaps and demand for climate resilience are most acute.
Previsico’s management team brings deep sector expertise and is supported by an active network of reputable investors. The company was founded by Professor Dapeng Yu and Dr Avi Baruch, researchers from Loughborough University, and has scaled its operations since 2019 under the leadership of CEO Jonathan Jackson. Today, Previsico is recognized not only as a leading technology provider, but also as a partner in helping organizations and communities adapt to climate risks and manage the financial implications of extreme weather.
Part of our role in expanding climate insurance across emerging markets is to ensure these regions gain access to world-leading climate technologies. Previsico is an excellent example of such innovation and an exceptional addition to our portfolio. We look forward to working with Jonathan and his team to help extend their platform on a global scale.
Building upon the achievements of its predecessor fund, the IIF II invests in scalable, technology-driven companies that improve affordability and accessibility of climate insurance. Through its partnership model and technical assistance support, IIF II helps build robust ecosystems for climate adaptation.
We are thrilled to have leading global impact investment BlueOrchard join us as an investor. Their strong credentials and support of our vision will help drive Previsico’s continued success. With a shared commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change, BlueOrchard brings valuable expertise and connections, particularly in emerging markets, which will empower us to expand our efforts in predicting and preventing flood impacts to generate lasting positive impact for communities, businesses, and the environment.
