Expansive Insurtech Previsico today announced the launch of Flood Intelligence 2.0, a major upgrade to its world-leading flood forecasting platform. Developed to empower insurers, infrastructure operators, risk managers, and at-risk organisations with clearer insight and greater confidence in managing flood events, the new release brings five significant breakthroughs in accuracy, insight and decision support.
Flood Intelligence 2.0 tackles two long-standing challenges in flood prediction. First, it replaces traditional deterministic forecasts with a probabilistic approach that gives users a far clearer understanding of both the likelihood and severity of a flood event. Second, it enables operators to respond to rapidly changing conditions, providing hourly updates within the platform, so decisions are based on real-time data.
Commenting on the launch, new Head of Product at Previsico, Sam Wilks, said: “Flood Intelligence 2.0 sets a new benchmark in flood forecasting, with the shift from deterministic to probabilistic insights representing a major step forward.
“Instead of telling users whether flooding is expected or not, our platform now shows a more detailed view of the outcome, including the likelihood and severity of floods, with accurate, timely, and actionable intelligence to support live response efforts, from managing insured assets and infrastructure to operational planning. This is a major step forward for the resilience and effectiveness of the insurance industry and its customers.”
The five platform upgrades include: probabilistic forecasting, showing a range of potential flood scenarios and their likelihood, including the probability and severity of possible flood impacts, to enable more informed and confident decision-making; and hourly forecast updates (previously three hours), as flood conditions can change rapidly, to provide near-real-time visibility.
Users also get 24-hours of retrospective analysis (up from 12 hours), to provide a clearer picture of how an event is evolving, supporting better validation, review, and resource coordination. This is combined with a new platform interface that introduces a cleaner, faster, and more intuitive operating environment for enhanced awareness as flood events unfold.
Finally, the platform now has an improved API, which has been significantly enhanced to deliver richer outputs, higher performance, and easier integration into customer systems, improving speed and efficiency across operational workflows.
Flood Intelligence 2.0 will be rolled out to Previsico's new and existing customers from early 2026 onwards, worldwide.
