We are looking for a Flood Modeller to join our GIS and Flood Modelling Team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced flood modeller to join our growing team and help us to build scale our flood forecasting system models across the globe. There will be opportunities to work on various parts of the model set-up process, including helping to incorporate new datasets into our modelling architecture and helping to validate model outputs to drive improvements in forecast skill. Leading on the daily and historical validation of flood forecasting, you will source, evaluate and process key datasets.

Contributing to our flood forecasting product development, you will also undertake bespoke flood modelling and risk assessment projects. There are also opportunities to supervise junior GIS analysts to help scale up our team.

Key Responsibilities

–        Sourcing, evaluating and processing key dataset.

–        Leading on daily and historical validation of flood forecasting using Python and GIS tools

–        Undertaking bespoke flood modelling and risk assessment projects

–        Supervising junior GIS analysts and quality-control their outputs

–        Contributing to Previsico’s flood forecasting product development

–        Supporting other software development and operational activities

–        Write and support innovation grants

–        Write project reports

–        Ensuring proper documentation

About You

The ideal candidate will have a proven experience in python programing, 2D flood modelling and a related degree in Geography or Engineering with over three years of experience in flood model development. The successful candidate will have the following core attributes:

–        A minimum of two years’ experience in flood modelling using 1D and/or 2D software packages

–        Experience of independently delivering flood modelling projects

–        Experience of sourcing and processing large geospatial datasets for flood modelling and flood risk assessments

–        Python coding experience

–        Experience with common geospatial processing Python libraries

–        Excellent GIS skills and a proven record in delivering data products

–        Experience working in an agile commercial environment

–        Good knowledge of geospatial statistics

–        An understanding of data requirements and availability for numerical flood modelling

–        An MSc degree or equivalent

Desirable but not essential

–        Experience and knowledge in the field of flood forecasting and flood early warning

–        Publication records

–        Experience of the AWS Cloud environment

–        Experience of the full development lifecycle from requirements analysis to design, development, testing and implementation.

–        Experience of other geospatial product development

–        Motivation to expand their knowledge of flood modelling

–        Ability to develop novel approaches to make improvements to our processes
